Paul O. Oniare

He holds a degree in Sociology from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA), a diploma in Community Based Project Planning and Management at the Kenya Institute of Social Work and Community Development in Nairobi and a certificate in addiction studies from International Substance Abuse and Addiction Coalition in Egypt. Further, he is vast with Monitoring and Evaluation issues having been trained by PSRI, the University of Nairobi under the scholarship of Academy for Educational Development (AED Capable Partners Program). He also went through a number Levi Trust (UK Charity) organised training programmes on addiction treatment. Paul obtained further training in addiction treatment in Cairo Egypt under the ISSAC International drugs addiction training programme for Africa and he is well conversant with different approaches to treatment. This is backed by several in house training which entailed learning of treatment programmes used at Arta in The Netherlands and several treatment programmes in the UK.

Paul has been with SINAM from 1998 when the first serious rehabilitation works started at St. Jude’s Centre and was very instrumental in giving SINAM the shape it has today. Paul’s dedicated work; self-sacrifice saw SINAM develop into a respectable organisation, which could offer professional service during the entire period of its existence. Paul has a wealth of experience in the implementation of reproductive and mental health programs have worked in both prevention and treatment programs for a span of eleven years. He has a strong passion for the underprivileged in community with biasness to HIV positive individuals and persons with various addiction-related disorders. He has also actively contributed to the design, establishment and implementation of intervention programs targeting the most vulnerable and hard to reach individuals in the community. In addition, he has been involved in Research Proposal developments for various HIV and substance abuse intervention programs in Kenya. He has successfully coordinated a survey of household listing and the uptake of home-based HIV counselling and testing in Kisumu East district.
